Molloy College Summer Music Institute at the Madison Theatre

Program Description

The Molloy College Summer Music Institute provides a fun and engaging opportunity to continue making music throughout the summer. Students entering grades 8-12 will study with renowned professionals from Molloy College and area schools. Our program of study allows students to build upon existing skills while also exploring new musical avenues. It is designed to accommodate students with a variety of musical interests, from those who hope to gain new musical insight in a supportive setting to those who are considering a career in music.

The Program at a Glance:

Five days per week, students receive intensive musical instruction with Molloy College music professors in our state-of-the-art performing arts facilities.

Students will participate in primary voice or instrumental lessons and sectionals 4 hours per week, ensemble rehearsals 5 hours per week, and study musical electives for 6 hours per week.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays:

9:00-9:40am: Music Elective 1
9:40-10:20am: Music Elective 2
10:20-11:00am: Music Elective 3
11:00-12:00pm: Large Ensemble Rehearsals (Jazz/Band, Choral, Orchestral, Percussion)
High-level performers may be invited to participate in multiple ensembles on a rotating basis

  • Songwriting/Composition
  • Intro to Music Theory
  • Intro to Digital Music
  • Improvisation

10:00-11:00am: Sectionals or Lessons
11:00-12:00pm: Large Ensemble Rehearsals (Jazz/Band, Choral, Orchestral, Percussion)

Performance:

Admission and Registration Information

The Summer Music Institute is open to students entering grades 8-12. This is an enrichment program that is designed for students who have been studying their instrument for a few years and/or have the ability to play at a NYSSMA level IV or higher.

Students will need to complete an application for admission with a teacher recommendation. Applications are due on Friday, May 30th, 2014.

Tuition: $525. A tuition deposit of $100 will be required to secure your spot in the program with the balance due on June 6th. You will receive registration instructions upon your acceptance into the program.

Open House and Further Information

Visit us at the Molloy College Summer Music Institute Open House on either Monday, March 24 or on Monday, May 19. The Open Houses will be held at 7:30 pm in the Public Square Building at Molloy College. Tour the facilities, meet the faculty and get your questions answered.
