SUMMARY:Molloy University CAP21 Presents: Head Over Heels
DESCRIPTION:A jukebox musical featuring the songs of The Go-Go’s and based on Philip Sidney’s The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia\, Head Over Heels is the story of what happens when the royal court of Arcadia is threatened by the mystical Oracle of Delphi with the loss of its “Beat\,” the divine power that ensures the kingdom’s prosperity. King Basilius\, whose own title is at stake\, forces the members of the royal family and court on a journey to the woods in an attempt to escape the Oracle’s seemingly unavoidable prophecies. Through a plot containing usurped kingship\, unlikely lovers\, and gender-fluid disguises\, Head Over Heels preaches unconditional love and acceptance of yourself and everyone you know\, no matter their gender or sexual identity\, and uses some of the greatest pop rock hits of the late 20th century.

SUMMARY:Mary Calvi – If a Poem Could Live and Breathe
DESCRIPTION:On The Road Book Events presents Mary Calvi\nIf a Poem Could Live and Breathe: A Novel of Teddy Roosevelt’s First Love \nStudded with the real love letters between a young Theodore Roosevelt and Boston beauty Alice Lee—many of them never-before-published and long-believed destroyed—If a Poem Could Live and Breathe makes vivid what many historians believe to be the pivotal years that made the future president into the man of action that defined his political life\, and cemented his legacy. \nCambridge\, 1878. The era of the Gilded Age. Alice Lee sets out to break from the norms of her mother’s generation. Women are fighting for educational opportunities and exploring a new sense of intellectual and personal freedom. Native New Yorker\, Harvard student Teddy Roosevelt\, is on his own journey of discovery\, and when they meet\, unrelenting currents of love change the trajectory of his life forever. \nIf a Poem Could Live and Breathe is an indelible portrait of the authenticity of first love\, the heartache of loss\, and how overcoming the worst of life’s obstacles can push one to greatness never imagined. \nMARY CALVI is a 12-time New York Emmy award-winning journalist and national anchor for WCBS-TV and weekend anchor of Inside Edition. Her in-depth research for her debut book\, DEAR GEORGE\, DEAR MARY: A Novel of George Washington’s First Love\, is the basis of a Smithsonian Channel documentary. \nEach ticket includes a signed copy of Mary’s newest book If a Poem Could Live and Breathe: A Novel of Teddy Roosevelt’s First Love. \n*This event will be held in the Larini Room\, on the 2nd floor of Molloy University’s Public Square Building*

SUMMARY:Molloy Performing Arts Club Presents: Grease
DESCRIPTION:Molloy Performing Arts Club presents… Grease! \nThe 1978 hit film starring John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton John is brought to the Madison Theatre stage by MPAC\, featuring Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: the duck-tailed\, hot-rodding boy gang called the “T-Birds” and their gum-snapping\, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers. This rollicking musical evokes the look and sound of the 1950’s\, recalling the music of Buddy Holly\, Little Richard\, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new “good girl” Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights”\, but they struggle to cross clique lines. The cast sings and dances their way through classics such as “Greased Lightnin’”\, “We Go Together”\, “Born to Hand-Jive”\, and “You’re the One That I Want”. An eight-year run on Broadway\, two subsequent revivals\, along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world’s most popular musicals.

SUMMARY:Nelson DeMille
DESCRIPTION:On The Road Book Events presents Nelson DeMille in conversation with Carol Hoenig. \nIn his dazzling #1 bestseller\, Plum Island\, Nelson DeMille introduced readers to NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey\, who we first meet sitting on the back porch of his uncle’s waterfront estate on Long Island\, convalescing from wounds incurred in the line of duty. \nFast forward through six more bestselling John Corey novels and The Maze opens with Corey on the same porch\, but now in forced retirement from his last job as a Federal Agent with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group. Corey is restless and looking for action\, so when his former lover\, Detective Beth Penrose\, appears with a job offer\, Corey has to once again make some decisions about his career—and about reuniting with Beth Penrose. \nInspired by\, and based on the actual and still unsolved Gilgo Beach murders\, The Maze takes the reader on a dangerous hunt for an apparent serial killer who has murdered nine—and maybe more—prostitutes and hidden their bodies in the thick undergrowth on a lonely stretch of beach. \nEach ticket includes a signed copy of The Maze.

SUMMARY:Don Giovanni
DESCRIPTION:The Madison Theatre and Long Island Lyric Opera present Mozart’s Don Giovanni! With director Adrienne Boris and musical direction by Adam Glaser\, the outrageous comedy tells the tale of an incorrigible young playboy who blazes a path to his own destruction in a single day. Based on the story of Don Juan\, Don Giovanni follows an irresistible (yet irresponsible and amoral) youth who is loved by women almost as universally as he loves them. It doesn’t take long before the audience sees that even Don Giovanni cannot escape the consequences of his flouting of conventional morality. \nThis production contains scenes of romantic and sexual intimacy\, both consensual and nonconsensual\, and drug use. It may not be suitable for audiences under the age of 13.

SUMMARY:Squirrel Screams and Other Dating Sounds
DESCRIPTION:In a world where you swipe to hookup and ghost to end a relationship\, finding something meaningful or even just normal is nearly impossible. Squirrel Screams and Other Dating Sounds follows loud\, hard-edged Bridgie (Kaitlyn Black\, Hart of Dixie) and quirky\, buttoned-up Kate (Josephine Rose Roberts\, Rock of Ages) as they navigate the NYC dating landscape in an attempt to find someone in the parade of 10 guys that pass through their midtown bar. \nBased on true life stories and spectacularly failing the Bechdel test\, this hysterical new play by Lindsay Timmington is an honest look at how difficult it is to date in the new millennium and how the relationships we find aren’t always the ones we’re looking for. \nSquirrel Screams and Other Dating Sounds is directed by Joe Ricci and will play at the Lucille S. Hays Theatre at Molloy beginning June 16th!

SUMMARY:Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel\, A Concert
DESCRIPTION:Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CAROUSEL: A Concert \nMusic by Richard Rodgers \nBook and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II \nBased on Ferenc Molnar’s Play LILIOM as Adapted by Benjamin F. Glazer \nChoreography for Original Production by Agnes de Mille \nDance Music Arranged by Trude Rittmann \nOrchestrations by Don Walker \nConcert Adaptation by Tom Briggs \n  \nStarring: \nCáitlín Burke\, Korina Deming\, Zelia Gourdon\, Kody Jauron\, Matt Kenna\, Trixie Klein\, Sydney McQueen Fieseler\, Ian Underhill\, Marek Zurowksi\, \n  \nFeaturing: \nAlex Arlotta \, Katharine Calabrese\, Juliana Conte\, Aidan Curley\, Django Jacobsen Fein\, Icis Hammond\, Rene Mirai Guyon\, Corey Jennings\, Andrew McNamara\, Avery Meier\, Taylor Neilson\, Lauren Norris\, Zach Poore\, Grace Pouliot\, Jake Schuster\, Hanna Scotch\, Timothy Thomas\, Jason Tobias\, Savannah Trotter\, Sophie Vaughan\, David VanDyke\, Kaitlin Wright \n  \nBilly Bigelow\, a swaggering\, carefree carnival barker\, falls in love with and marries the sweet but naive Julie Jordan. A stunning tale of hope\, redemption\, and the power of love. \n  \nRichard Rodgers once wrote that of all the musicals he wrote\, Carousel was his personal favorite. This American classic feature some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most iconic pieces\, including “If I Loved You”\, “Mister Snow”\, “June Is Bustin Out All Over”\, and the iconic “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Carousel was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s second collaboration\, and was adapted from Ferenc Molnar’s 1909 play Liliom. They transferred the Budapest setting of Liliom to the New England coastline\, where Carousel takes place. The story tells of roguish carnival barker Billy Bigelow and mill worker Julie Jordan\, both loners\, who meet and fall in love. Their marriage ends up costing both their jobs\, and things go downhill from there. Billy’s desperation makes him violent against those he loves most\, and drives him to commit crimes in order to provide for his family. When Billy falls in with con-man Jigger Craigin\, he ends up getting caught in the midst of an armed robbery and takes his own life. Billy is allowed to return to earth for one day 15 years later\, and he encounters the daughter he never knew. Louise is a lonely\, friendless teenager\, her father’s reputation having haunted her throughout her young life. Yet Billy is able to instill in both the child and her mother a sense of hope. Voted the best musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine\, Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Carousel is the classic American musical\, spanning heaven and earth in its exploration of human frailty\, resilience\, and the power of forgiveness.
