SUMMARY:CRYSTAL BOWERSOX
DESCRIPTION:Crystal Bowersox\, a northwest Ohio native currently calling Nashville home\, has built her life around music.  For her\, music was always the most effective form of catharsis\, and she would play for anyone\, anywhere. In her own words\, “my guitar was an appendage. I couldn’t live without it.” \nCrystal moved to Chicago as a teenager\, ultimately auditioning for the ninth season of American Idol. Crystal’s time on the show proved to be well spent\, as she immediately left the soundstage for the recording studio. Since her introduction to the world through television\, Crystal has released two LPs\, two EPs\, and several singles. Additionally\, she has used her talents to benefit several causes close to her heart and has become an advocate and inspiration for people living with Type 1 Diabetes. \nThe accomplished singer-songwriter is set to release a new project – a live album\, recorded at the Kitchen Sink Studio in Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, cleverly titled Alive. Not only is the title a play on words\, representing the rawness of the tracks\, but it pertains to the place where Crystal currently is in her life.  That place is one of joy\, fulfillment\, and stability for Crystal and her eight-year-old son\, Tony. \nBy reliving her own painful moments in song\, Crystal hopes to transcend that pain\, lifting herself and her audience to a higher place. In the opening lines of “A Broken Wing” she sings\, “I know there’s beauty in the burden / And even on my darkest day that sun will shine.” Crystal’s story is one of resilience and perseverance\, and it’s evident in every note of her newest release\, Alive. \nCheck her out:

SUMMARY:Mindi Abair & the Bone Shakers
DESCRIPTION:One of the most recognized and sought-after saxophonists\, two-time GRAMMY® nominee Mindi Abair has been electrifying audiences with her dynamic live performances and sax prowess since her debut album in 2000. No one since Junior Walker has brought saxophone and vocals in one package to the forefront of modern music\, with a raucous tone and abandon. She has garnered ten #1 radio hits\, six Top 5 solo records and two #1 spots on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz album chart. In 2014\, Mindi received her first GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category\, followed by a 2015 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her solo LP Wild Heart featuring the late Gregg Allman\, Joe Perry\, Trombone Shorty\, Booker T. Jones\, Keb’ Mo’\, and Max Weinberg. \nThe daughter and granddaughter of working musicians\, Abair continues to captivate fans while evolving her sound. In 2014\, after two seasons as the featured saxophonist on the hit series American Idol\, Abair released Wild Heart. This LP showcased a compilation of grittier rock and soul tracks featuring some of the biggest names in music. To help translate this sound to her live shows\, Mindi enlisted longtime friend and The Boneshakers founder Randy Jacobs (Bonnie Raitt\, Was Not Was\, Willie Nelson) to inject his brand of Detroit Rock/Funk. The collaboration was undeniable\, and it led to an almost immediate decision to join forces creatively. Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers features Mindi (Saxophone\, Vocals)\, Randy Jacobs (Guitar\, Vocals)\, Sweet Pea Atkinson (Vocals)\, Rodney Lee (Keys)\, Derek Frank (Bass\, Vocals)\, and Third Richardson (Drums\, Vocals). Their first record together Mindi Abair and the Boneshakers – Live in Seattle was released September 2015\, and recorded at their first official show together in Seattle February 2015. \n“MINDI PLAYS WITH EVERY PART OF HER BODY AND SOUL…. BEAUTIFULLY RAW THE WAY I LIKE IT.” – FANTASTIC NEGRITO \n“THERE AREN’T THAT MANY PEOPLE AROUND THAT PLAY WITH THAT KIND OF BLUES ENTHUSIASM\, THAT ARE RECORDING AND TOURING. I KNOW I CAN COUNT ON HER TO HELP KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE.” – BOBBY RUSH \n“ELECTRIC\, ROCK-FILLED SOLO ENDEAVOR PLAYED WITH ABANDON AND ELECTRICITY” – JAY Z’S LIFE AND TIMES \n“…HAS A HARD-BLOWING\, GRITTY TONE IN THE VEIN OF KING CURTIS.” – USA TODAY

SUMMARY:Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes
DESCRIPTION:‘Tis The Season for Ronnie Spector to Spread Holiday Cheer With Her “Best Christmas Party Ever!” \nPerforming as ‘Ronnie Spector and The Ronettes’ for the first time since the 1970s  \nRonnie Spector’s Best Christmas Party Ever! is a raucous\, rocking\, and intoxicating blend of her Christmas classics and Ronnettes hits\, including “Be My Baby\,” (recently named by Billboard Magazine as the #1 Greatest Girl Group Song of All Time) “Walking In The Rain\,” “Baby I Love You”\, cult gems from her back catalog\, a splash of doo–wop\, and plenty of Ronnie’s inimitable off–the–cuff commentary. As The New York Daily News said\, “Go and experience the ultimate sonic stocking stuffer!” \nThe New York Times raved: “It’s hard to think of a more appealing angel to welcome the season than Ms. Spector.” For three decades\, Ronnie’s Christmas show has been a cherished holiday tradition\, with a song list that includes her definitive renditions of “Frosty the Snowman\,” “Sleigh Ride\,” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Both “Frosty” and “Sleigh Ride” dominate the airwaves at Christmas time and are perennials on ASCAP’s list of the Top 20 Most–Played Holiday Songs for the past decade. Ronnie’s Christmas songs have been heard in hit movies such as Goodfellas\, Joy\, and Jingle All the Way.

SUMMARY:Albatross
DESCRIPTION:A love story for our time from the heart of the Pacific.\nALBATROSS is a powerful visual journey into the heart of a gut-wrenching environmental tragedy. On one of the remotest islands on Earth\, tens of thousands of albatross chicks lie dead on the ground\, their bodies filled with plastic. Returning to the island over several years\, Chris and his filming team witnessed cycles of birth\, life\, and death of these magnificent creatures as a multi-layered metaphor for our times. ALBATROSS walks us through the fire of horror and grief\, facing the immensity of this tragedy—and our own complicity—head on. And in this process\, we find an unexpected route to a deeply felt experience of beauty and love for the miracle of life on Earth. Stepping outside the stylistic templates of traditional environmental or documentary films\, ALBATROSS takes viewers on a lyrical guided tour into the depths of their own spirits\, delivering a profound message of reverence and renewal that is already reaching an audience of millions of people around the world. \nFirst-time director Chris Jordan is well-known for his photographic work that explores the collective shadow of contemporary mass culture. Edge-walking the line between beauty and horror\, abstraction and representation\, the near and the far\, the visible and the invisible\, Jordan’s work confronts the enormous power of humanity’s collective will. His works are exhibited and published worldwide. \nThe Art Gallery\, Sustainability Institute\, and the Madison Theatre have joined together to bring this intensely beautiful but sobering film to Molloy College and the surrounding community. Come share this experience with us and consider\, “Do we have the courage to face the realities of our time?” \nPlease register for this free event through the Art Gallery Calendar or by Texting MASC ALBA to 56512. \nDoors open 6:30\nWelcome 6:50\nFilm 7:00\nClosing Remarks 8:40\n*Not recommended for children under 12

SUMMARY:Copland Third Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Aaron Copland is considered to have been the “dean of American composers.” His style\, a brilliant synthesis of the European classical tradition and the American vernacular\, is instantly recognizable. His Fanfare for the Common Man is one of the great pages of musical patriotism\, and is a work whose familiarity belies its originality. The Third Symphony\, composed during the final years of World War II\, is the best known of his symphonies. While it represents the epitome of his American style\, it uses no folk tunes\, but extensively develops the thematic material of his Fanfare\, written a few years earlier. \nThe ebullient virtuosity of Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 for Piano and Orchestra in E flat Op. 73 (the “Emperor Concerto”) finds a perfect champion in the young pianist\, Baron Fenwick. Last season\, Baron wowed the South Shore Symphony audience with his rendition of Bernstein’s Second Symphony (“The Age of Anxiety”)\, and he subsequently added to his list of accomplishments by winning the concerto competition at the prestigious Mannes School of Music at The New School.
