SUMMARY:Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\nThe South Shore Symphony\nDavid LaMarche\, Guest Conductor \nTchaikovsky had great respect for the conventions of writing for ballet\, but his ballet scores\, of which Swan Lake was the first\, are also masterpieces of orchestral writing. Of course\, the ballet was meant to accompany the power of the music which is often subsumed in the beauty of the dance. This concert will provide an opportunity to enjoy this music for its own sake. \nWith his revolutionary score\, The Rite of Spring\, Igor Stravinsky created an unforgettable musical panorama of primitive Russia and its intimate and sometimes savage relationship with nature. Maestro David LaMarche\, the highly acclaimed conductor of the world renowned American Ballet Theatre\, brings the experience of countless performances with the most famous ballet dancers of our time to create his own unique interpretation of these great works.

SUMMARY:John Pizzarelli
DESCRIPTION:A portion of your ticket will be donated directly to raise funds for HELP Primary School – HELP Uganda. \nTo donate please visit: help-uganda.com \n \nJohn Pizzarelli\, is a world-renowned guitarist and singer\, hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” The Toronto Star pegged him as “the genial genius of the guitar.” And the Seattle Times saluted him as “a rare entertainer of the old school.” \nEstablished as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of the Great American Songbook\, Pizzarelli has expanded that repertoire by including the music of Joni Mitchell\, Neil Young\, Tom Waits\, Antônio Carlos Jobim and Lennon-McCartney. His themed shows\, often performed with his wife Jessica Molaskey\, suggest there is no limit to Pizzarelli’s imagination or talent. \nThe next step is introducing the solo work of Paul McCartney to his audience through his September 18\, 2015 release on Concord Records\, Midnight McCartney\, and on stages around the world. The challenge\, Pizzarelli says\, is lining up the lesser-known McCartney songs alongside the works of Gershwin\, Berlin and Rodgers. \n“It’s not out of the realm to say\, ‘Here are some excellent songs. What you just enjoyed and maybe thought was Johnny Mercer\, is really Paul McCartney.’ I think they can all stand next to each other.”

SUMMARY:The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical
DESCRIPTION:Last summer’s Off-Broadway production was nominated for an Outstanding Musical from the Lortel Awards and for Best Family Show from the Off-Broadway Alliance!\nPercy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school…again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately\, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse\, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the prime suspect. \nNow Percy has ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest\, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle\, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves. Adapted from the book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. \n(Approximately one hour in length. Recommended for grades 2-6) \n“The Lightning Thief is an action-packed musical with heroic battles and mythological beasties.” – Elizabeth Vincentelli\, New York Post \nCheck it out:

SUMMARY:An Evening of Mary Bridget Davies
DESCRIPTION:The show is a musical journey celebrating Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences — trailblazers like Aretha Franklin\, Etta James\, Odetta\, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith\, all of whom inspired Joplin to become one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest legends. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last\, Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and\, almost overnight\, became the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Her unmistakable voice\, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort\, made Joplin a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Audiences will enjoy Joplin’s favorites\, including “Piece of My Heart\,” “Cry Baby\,” and “Me and Bobby McGee\,” among many others. \nA NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN features Mary Bridget Davies in the starring role. Upon gaining local acclaim for her work in various rock bands\, Cleveland native Davies was asked to sit in with Big Brother & The Holding Company (Joplin’s original band\, with whom she would later tour)\, as well as legendary blues guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr. Davies\, and received a Tony nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical” when A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN debuted on Broadway in 2013. \n  \nOpening for Mary Bridget Davies is\nMia Dyson\n \nMia is an award-winning guitarist and singer/songwriter recently named one of Australia’s top 25 guitarists of all time and has toured with the likes of Eric Clapton\, Bonnie Raitt\, Stevie Nicks and many more. Her album The Moment received ★★★★ (4 stars) in Rolling Stone Australia and was followed by her album\, Idyllwild\, which Daytrotter hailed as “Brilliant” and scored her a win as Double J Radio’s “Artist of the Year”.  Her forthcoming album\, If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back\, is set to release in spring 2018 via Single Lock Records.

SUMMARY:A Night of RnR
DESCRIPTION:The gifted\, but humble Jazz trumpet player\, Rick Braun\, is consistently on the top of the charts. With his collection of No. 1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz charters and his radio hits during his solo career\, it’s no wonder why. Combining forces with saxophonist Richard Elliot\, they created a new record called RnR\, which cleverly stands for R(est) (a)n(d) R(elaxation). Some of these songs include: “Mercy\, Mercy\, Mercy\,” “Curve Ball\,” “Sunday Night\,” “Que Paso\,” and “Da JR Funk.” Just like the album’s namesake\, RnR is all about leisure. \nWith great performances emanating from both Braun and Elliot\, RnR is exciting and lively\, yet warm\, sexy\, and mellow. It is in this experimental way that you begin to grasp the depth of their combined signature sounds and the impact it will have on their devoted and new fans alike.

SUMMARY:SEMI-TONED Presents: Season Three
DESCRIPTION:Semi-Toned was formed in 2010 at the University of Exeter as a five-man barbershop harmony group. Now\, in 2018\, the group is twelve men strong and at the forefront of a cappella in the United Kingdom. In April 2015\, the group earned the title of national a cappella champions\, after winning the Voice Festival UK\, but they have become best known for their recent TV appearances. The first of these was on BBC2’s 2016 show ‘The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain’\, which the group went on to win in front of an audience of over 2 million viewers. In 2017\, they appeared again as finalists on Sky 1’s ‘Sing: Ultimate A Cappella’. \nThe group also produces their own music videos\, the first of which\, Rich Man\, has amassed nearly 130\,000 views on YouTube\, whilst their most recent video\, covering Beyoncé’s 7/11\, was the most nominated video at this year’s A Capella Video Awards (AVAs). The video went on to win two awards for Best Electronic/Experimental Video and Best All Male Collegiate Video from its six nominated categories. \nSemi-Toned also performs annually at the Edinburgh Fringe\, and is the only a cappella group ever to have received the prestigious Bobby Award from Broadway Baby. The group is excited to now return to the United States to embark upon their third tour\, performing their new show ‘Season Three’ along the East Coast from Florida to New York.

SUMMARY:On The Town
DESCRIPTION:Music by: Leonard Bernstein\nBooks and Lyrics by: Betty Comden and Adolph Green \nWith the pomp and fanfare of New York City\, the brassy lyricism of Leonard Bernstein\, and the sweet immediacy of a day of freedom during a time of war\, On the Town is an American classic\, beloved both for its moment in history and for its timeless qualities of youth and exuberance. The show follows the adventures of three sailors on leave for just 24 hours in the great city of New York before heading off to battle in World War II. Goofy ladies’ man Ozzie is looking for a date—maybe seven or eight—and studious innocent Chip\, guidebook in hand\, has several days’ worth of tourist attractions to check off his list. But when idealistic Gabey falls for the photograph of lovely Miss Turnstiles\, a subway beauty queen\, they all join in an ambitious scavenger hunt around the city to locate this dream girl — and\, on the way\, find all of the romance\, adventure\, and New York atmosphere for which they could wish. Joined by Claire\, a sophisticated anthropologist with a red-hot heart\, and Hildy\, a sweetly aggressive cab driver on the lam\, the sailors careen through museums and nightclubs\, Carnegie Hall\, and Coney Island\, before Gabey and Ivy are finally united — just in the knick of time. With brash\, spectacular\, and slightly bittersweet abandon\, On the Town is a tale about seizing the day and living life to its fullest. With a soaring score by Leonard Bernstein and humorous\, highly intelligent lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green\, On the Town features the seductively upbeat “I Can Cook\, Too\,” the melancholically beautiful ballad “Lonely Town\,” and that most iconic of tunes\, “New York\, New York.” \nDirected by Andrew Willis-Woodward \nFeaturing:\nSelena Donayre     John Guaragna     Brenna Hanly\nSarah Kaufman     Chrissy Margevicius     Sammi Messina\nRyan Mulvaney     Frankie Rocco     Kaylee Robinson     Ben Rosen\nJimmy Schumacher     Katelyn Shreiner     Angela Strauman \nPresented by arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library\, Inc.
