SUMMARY:Joyful Musical Night with Magalie Joseph
DESCRIPTION:Joyful Musical Night with\nMagalie Joseph\nAnd Other Artists \nJuly 13\, 2024\nArt Exhibition/ 5PM\nLive Concert/ 6:30PM \n  \nMAGALIE JOSEPH\nMagalie Joseph hails from the picturesque city of Cap-Haitien\, Haiti\, where the vibrant rhythms of life and the soul-stirring melodies of local singers like Emma Achille and Marie Mirca Tangar filled the air. From her earliest days\, Magalie was captivated by the enchanting harmonies of French love songs and the resonant voices of groups like “SEMEUR.” In the tender embrace of her homeland\, Magalie’s passion for music blossomed into a profound love affair with the arts. Inspired by the majestic performances of the Haitian operatic soprano Gladys Odate and the timeless ballads of Sandi Patty\, she embarked on a journey to explore the depths of her musical soul. Her pursuit of excellence led her to Miami-Dade Community College\, where under the tutelage of Juan Secada\, she honed her craft in classical music. Here\, amidst the symphonic crescendos and graceful cadences\, Magalie’s talent blossomed like a delicate flower in full bloom. However\, fate had other plans for Magalie\, and in the mid-1990’s\, she felt a calling to shift her focus towards the noble field of Social Work. Relocating to the bustling streets of New York City in 1994\, she embarked on a new chapter of her life\, dedicating herself to serving the diverse communities of the Big Apple. Despite her demanding career\, Magalie’s passion for music remained undiminished. With each passing year\, she continued to enchant audiences with her mesmerizing performances\, gracing venues ranging from hallowed church halls to the prestigious corridors of The United Nations. Today\, as a cherished member of Beraca Baptist Church\, Magalie finds solace and inspiration in the sacred hymns that echo through its hallowed halls. And with the release of her debut album\, “Revivre\,” she invites listeners on a journey of renewal and rediscovery\, where each note is imbued with the timeless beauty of her lyric soprano and unwavering faith. \n  \nVOICE OF WORSHIP\nVoice Of Worship\, known as VOW\, embodies faith\, friendship\, and perseverance—a vow to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and uplift the souls of God’s people through song and worship. Aviole also developed her passion from watching and listening to her late aunt who raised her. In Port-au-Prince\, where she grew up\, Aviole enjoyed listening to her aunt’s voice\, echoing in their neighborhood during “black out”. At the end of every song\, in the quiet darkness\, the neighbors\, young and old would applaud as they enjoyed their free live concert. In 1992\, Aviole reunited with her parents in New York\, where immediately joined the first choir of FSBC of Clermont Ave\, under the baton of the great Apollon Menard.\nToday\, Aviole continued to develop her voice under the teaching of Soprano Hannah Kim. SUMMARY:"How to Defuse a Bomb The Project Children's Story" Documentary
DESCRIPTION:Molloy University\, along with Dermot F. Kelly and Brian J. Sharkey cordially invite you to: \n“An Evening with Denis Mulcahy for the Announcement of Project Children’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations in 2025”. \nPlease join us for a pre drinks reception and meet ‘n greet with Denis\, starting from 6:00pm\, with our documentary screening starting from 7.00pm on Wednesday May 1st\, 2024 in the Madison Theater at Molloy University. \nThis powerful feature film celebrates the unsullied hard work and dedication of the Project Children Charity and one of its founding members\, Denis Mulcahy\, a retired and highly decorated NYPD Bomb Squad Officer. \nA short Q+A will follow the screening. \nWe will also be announcing the upcoming exciting plans to celebrate Project Children’s 50 year legacy in 2025. \n“How to Defuse a Bomb: The Project Children Story”: \nNarrated by Liam Neeson and directed by Des Henderson\, the film documents the pursuit of reconciliation in Northern Ireland\, through the medium of its children. Offering over 23\,000 children a six-week summer reprieve from the intrinsic\, sectarian violence of “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland\, this extraordinary tale resonates to all that is good in this world. \nIn today’s era of both a shared and integrated society\, this may not seem unusual but in the segregated communities of the seventies and eighties\, this was a monumental brave step towards healing and was ultimately instrumental in helping our world leaders forge the pathway for peace in Northern Ireland. \nDenis Mulcahy’s Awards and Achievements: \nDenis Mulcahy has received many accolades for his vigorous work in assisting the peace process in Northern Ireland and was twice nominated for the very prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for all his work for the children of Northern Ireland and was runner up to the First President of South Africa\, Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa respectively. \nIn 1995\, Denis received the Top Cop Award in Washington D.C. by Vice President Al Gore and later that year\, Denis accompanied President Clinton on his historic trip to Northern Ireland. \nIn 2016\, Denis received the title of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II. In 2017 he also received the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad\, presented to him personally by the President of Ireland Michael J. Higgins. \nIn 2018\, he also received a presentation on behalf of the Washington Ireland Program from the Irish Taoiseach\, Leo Vradakar. Taoiseach Vradakar was one of the first participants from the south of Ireland on the Washington Ireland Program. \nThis same year the Mulcahy Scholarship was founded by the Aisling Irish Community Center\, Yonkers\, NY. The scholarship is an opportunity for American high school students to attend summer camps in Ireland with the aim of experiencing and connecting to Irish culture and heritage. It is a fitting tribute to the Mulcahy family\, who for forty years provided temporary respite to the children of Northern Ireland and to Denis who has been a devoted board member to the Aisling Center since 1996. \nDespite these many recognitions\, Denis’ proudest achievement still remains to be his work with Project Children in helping the many children across Northern Ireland take their first steps toward peace and reconiliation. \nTickets and Event Registration: \nTickets are $20 per person and all proceeds will go to Project Children. \nVisit www.projectchildren.org for more information on the charity. \nWe look forward to seeing you all on the night. \n

SUMMARY:The Step Crew
DESCRIPTION:Take Nathan and Jon Pilatzke\, two brothers from rural Ontario who haphazardly get started in Canadian Step dancing and Fiddling as young children. The two boys\, like a surprisingly high amount of other Canadian children\, spend their summer weekends travelling around Ontario competing in Fiddle and Stepdance festivals. Cut to years later–Nathan and Jon pursue their art forms into a professional career. It is in this forum that they encounter The Chieftains lead dancer Cara Butler\, a multi-time Irish Step dancing champion and the three friends unknowingly and unwittingly create the core\, both physically and conceptually\, for a new dance production aptly titled The StepCrew. It is this type of connection and familiarity that are the backbone of The StepCrew–other dancers and musicians in the show traceable like branches of a tree back to its trunk. However\, the mission of this troupe involves much more than simply the gathering of extremely talented friends. The StepCrew is a completely original and virtuosic display of three styles of percussive dance–Irish Step dancing\, Ottawa Valley Step dancing\, and Tap–in a fully realized theatrical setting. This mission could not be clearer ast he curtain rises to a short taste of each style in its traditional form\, only to be followed by a bolt to the senses resulting in the full company dancing a uniform style–a style which Jean Butler of River dance fame could only describe as “a unique and seamless blend of all three”. From there this amazing company take you on a journey from a house party in the back kitchen of an old Irish cottage\, to a lamplit sidewalk in New YorkCity\, to a French Canadian lumber camp in Quebec\,using nothing more than their feet. Where it is inarguable that The StepCrew is a celebration of dance\, one cannot deny the musical abilities of the instrumentalists–two of the dancers themselves being noted and champion Canadian fiddlers. One of The StepCrew’s “secret weapons” is its musical ensemble–some of the most respected musicians in the Celtic genre today perform arrangements perfectly crafted to compliment both traditional and progressive dance moments. The StepCrew boasts performers from The Chieftains\, Cherish The Ladies\, Lunasa\, Loreena McKennit\, Carlos Nunez\, and Bowfire. As six-time Grammy Award winner Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains quotes\, “The StepCrew does not simply draw their audience in\, they take them by the hand and remind us what dance is meant to be about–fun!” \n

SUMMARY:A Doo Wop Project Christmas
DESCRIPTION:The Doo Wop Project returns to the Madison Theatre with a Christmas show you will not want to miss. \nThe Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning\, tracing the inception of group singing developed by inner city African Americans performing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows DWP takes audiences on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests\, Belmonts and Flamingos through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson\, The Temptations\, and The Four Seasons all the way to DooWopified versions of modern musicians like Michael Jackson\, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5. Featuring stars of Broadway’s smash hits Jersey Boys and Motown: The Musical\, the Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine—some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history! \n
