SUMMARY:Jazz Funk Soul
DESCRIPTION:Smooth jazz supergroup Jazz Funk Soul formed in the mid-2010s as a collaborative trio featuring Jeff Lorber\, Chuck Loeb\, and Everette Harp. They released two albums with 2014’s Grammy-nominated Jazz Funk Soul and 2016’s More Serious Business. After Loeb’s death in 2017\, guitarist Paul Jackson\, Jr. joined for 2019’s Life and Times and 2022’s Forecast\, both of which honored Loeb and continued to showcase the trio’s hooky\, groove-oriented sound. \nFormed as a live touring ensemble in 2013\, Jazz Funk Soul initially featured the talents of veteran musicians Jeff Lorber (keyboards)\, Chuck Loeb (guitar)\, and Everette Harp (saxophone). Prior to joining forces\, the members had each distinguished themselves as regulars on the smooth jazz charts. Grammy winner Lorber had worked with luminaries like Kenny G\, Dave Koz\, and Miles Davis. Similarly\, Loeb and Harp had also scored many Top 20 jazz albums and worked respectively with artists like Eric Marienthal\, Fourplay\, and Stanley Clarke. They brought all of this experience to bear on their 2014 full-length debut\, the eponymous Jazz Funk Soul on Shanachie. Well-received\, the album earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. They returned two years later with their sophomore LP\, More Serious Business. \nTragically\, Loeb succumbed to cancer in July 2017. After his passing\, Lorber and Harp enlisted guitarist Paul Jackson\, Jr. to join them for an album that would serve as a tribute to Loeb’s legacy. Life and Times appeared in January 2019. Jackson remained as a full-time member and was on board for the group’s fourth album\, Forecast\, which arrived in 2022. Along with funky cuts like “Fish Grease” and “Hustle\,” the record again featured an homage to their late guitarist with “CSL” (for Charles Samuel Loeb). evenings. \n

SUMMARY:Being Henry
DESCRIPTION:Long Island LitFest Presents Henry Winkler\nWednesday\, November 1\, 2023\, 7:30 pm\nAt Madison Theater\, Molloy College\, Rockville Centre\nYour $50 ticket includes a talk with Henry Winkler\, audience Q&A\, book signing & photo op. \n  \n \n  \nPlease join us for an exclusive Long Island event when Newsday Senior Lifestyle Host Elisa DiStefano sits down for an intimate conversation with superstar Henry Winkler. Henry will be talking about his memoir\, BEING HENRY: The Fonz… and Beyond. \nFrom Emmy-award winning actor\, author\, comedian\, producer\, and director Henry Winkler\, this is a deeply thoughtful memoir of the lifelong effects of stardom and the struggle to become whole.  Henry Winkler\, launched into prominence by his role as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days\, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant\, funny\, and widely-regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case\, he’s really just grateful to be here)\, Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood\, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia\, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own\, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you. \nSince the glorious era of Happy Days fame\, Henry has endeared himself to a new generation with roles in such adored shows as Arrested Development\, Parks and Recreation\, and Barry\, where he’s revealed himself as an actor with immense depth and pathos\, a departure from the period of his life when he was so distinctly typecast as The Fonz\, he could hardly find work. \nFilled with profound heart\, charm\, and self-deprecating humor\, Being Henry is a memoir about so much more than a life in Hollywood and the curse of stardom. It is a meaningful testament to the power of sharing truth and kindness and of finding fulfillment within yourself. \n  \nPhoto by Andrew Eccles \n  \nAbout Henry Winkler:\nHenry Winkler will celebrate 50 years of success in Hollywood this year and continues to be in demand as an actor\, producer\, and director. He co-stars as acting teacher Gene Cousineau on the hit HBO dark comedy\, Barry. For this role\, he won his first Primetime Emmy Award in 2018 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy as well as two Television Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama\, he was cast in 1973 in the iconic role of Arthur Fonzarelli\, aka “The Fonz\,” in the TV series Happy Days. During his 10 years on the popular sitcom\, he won two Golden Globe Awards\, was nominated three times for an Emmy Award and was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In recent years\, Winkler appeared in a number of series\, including Medical Police\, Arrested Development\, Children’s Hospital\,Royal Pains\, New Girl\, and Parks and Recreation. He is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous children’s books\, including Alien Superstar\, A Trilogy and Hank Zipzer the World’s Greatest Under-Achiever\, a 28-book series inspired by Winkler’s own struggle with learning challenges. Of all the titles he has received\, the ones he relishes most are husband\, father and grandfather. Winkler and his wife\, Stacey\, have three children\, Jed\, Zoe and Max\, and six grandchildren. They reside in Los Angeles with their two dogs. \n\nModerated by Elisa DiStefano\n \nWe thank Locust Valley Bookstore for proving the books for this event.

SUMMARY:Alex Toussaint - "Activate Your Greatness"
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Madison Theater for an evening with rising peloton star Alex Toussaint as he discusses his new motivational self-help book\, Activate Your Greatness! Following the discussion\, Toussaint will sign books for ticket holders. \nTICKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT. \nA ticket admits one person and includes a copy of Activate Your Greatness\, which you will receive at the event.\nAdditional copies of Activate Your Greatness will be available for purchase at The Madison Theatre the night of the event.\n \nABOUT THE BOOK:\nAlex Toussaint\, the rising Peloton star who counts everyone from Roger Federer and the Golden State Warriors to the Today Show’s Carson Daly as fans\, hops off the bike and gives readers the inspiration and motivation they need to activate their greatness in every aspect of their lives. \nAlex Toussaint is known for his grueling workouts where he promises “to kick your ass” – yet thousands keep coming back for more. Why? Because he might be the most motivational teacher out there right now. His mantra is “Feel Good\, Look Good\, Do Better.” He expects more from you\, and from himself. Yet so much of what he talks about is NOT about the bike. \nAlex’s enthusiasm for life is infectious –“You woke up today!” “Breathe in confidence\, exhale doubt.” Because Alex knows what it is like to be overlooked and undervalued\, to be the underdog. He knows what it’s like to not expect the best from yourself. The child of Haitian immigrants who sacrificed so much to give him an education\, he knows what it is like to be one of the few Black kids growing up in East Hampton. After a turbulent adolescence that saw him being sent to military school\, Toussaint dropped out of college and was mopping floors at a gym. A few years later\, he’s one of the most iconic cycling instructors on Peloton\, helping thousands of users along their fitness journeys through his inspirational workouts. \nFinally\, Alex gets off the bike to help readers activate their own greatness in every aspect of their lives. Part self-help\, part memoir\, Activate Your Greatness details Toussaint’s mental and physical practices\, on and off the bike\, that have influenced his daily habits\, fueled his motivation\, and that have ultimately contributed to his astronomical success and shows readers how they can do the same. \n  \nALEX TOUSSAINT is a Senior Peloton Instructor and both a Puma and Hyperice athlete. A hybrid of high-performance athlete and motivational coach\, Toussaint is a titan within the fitness community and is widely respected for his authenticity and positivity. He thrives at the intersection of fitness\, tech\, music\, sports\, fashion\, entertainment\, and community. In 2020\, he founded the Do Better Foundation whose mission is to promote and provide a broader access to wellness services and resources. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Paul Holes "Unmasked"
DESCRIPTION:Theodore’s Books Presents: Cold Case Investigator Paul Holes discusses UNMASKED at The Madison Theatre\nJoin at The Madison Theater for an evening with former cold case investigator best known for identifying the Golden State Killer\, Paul Holes! Holes will discuss his memoir\, Unmasked: My Life Solving America’s Cold Cases. Following the discussion\, the author will sign books for ticket holders. \nTICKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT.\nA ticket admits one person and includes a copy of Unmasked\, which you will receive at the event. \nAdditional copies of Unmasked will be available for purchase at The Madison Theatre the night of the event. \nABOUT THE BOOK:\n**THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER** \n“It’s a mark of the highest honor when I say it’s even more riveting than an episode of ‘Dateline’.”\n—The New York Times \nFrom Paul Holes\, the detective who found the Golden State Killer\, Unmasked is a memoir that “grabs its reader in a stranglehold and proves more fascinating than fiction and darker than any noir narrative.” (LA Magazine) \nI order another bourbon\, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here\, to this place\, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it\, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. \nCrime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt\, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me\, for better or worse\, to the point of obsession. People always ask how I am able to detach from the horrors of my work. Part of it is an innate capacity to compartmentalize; the rest is experience and exposure\, and I’ve had plenty of both. But I have always taken pride in the fact that I can keep my feelings locked up to get the job done. It’s only been recently that it feels like all that suppressed darkness is beginning to seep out. \nWhen I look back at my long career\, there is a lot I am proud of. I have caught some of the most notorious killers of the twenty-first century and brought justice and closure for their victims and families. I want to tell you about a lifetime solving these cold cases\, from Laci Peterson to Jaycee Dugard to the Pittsburg homicides to\, yes\, my twenty-year-long hunt for the Golden State Killer. \nBut a deeper question eats at me as I ask myself\, at what cost? I have sacrificed relationships\, joy—even fatherhood—because the pursuit of evil always came first. Did I make the right choice? It’s something I grapple with every day. Yet as I stand in the spot where a young girl took her last breath\, as I look into the eyes of her family\, I know that\, for me\, there has never been a choice. “I don’t know if I can solve your case\,” I whisper. “But I promise I will do my best.” \nIt is a promise I know I can keep. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR:\nIn 2018\, Paul Holes retired as a cold case investigator after spending more than twenty-seven years working in Contra Costa County\, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Paul specialized in cold case and serial predator crimes\, lending his expertise to notable cases\, including the murder of Laci Peterson and the kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard. Most prominently\, Paul’s career culminated with his identification of the Golden State Killer\, Joseph DeAngelo\, the most notorious and cunning serial predator in U.S. history. \nSince the arrest of DeAngelo\, Holes has been very involved on the media side\, continuing to assist law enforcement and victims’ families with their unsolved cases through the television shows The DNA of Murder with Paul Holes and America’s Most Wanted and the podcast Jensen & Holes: The Murder Squad. \nPLEASE NOTE: All books signed at this event must be purchased from Theodore’s Books. \n

As an adult he studied classical piano at Stony Brook University and continued his education studying jazz with Andy Laverne {Frank Sinatra\, Stan Getz\, Woody Herman\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Chick Corea\, Lionel Hampton\, Michael Brecker\, Elvin Jones\,} among others. He has also performed and recorded for over 20 years as an in demand player for hire with such acts as the renown 17 piece swing band The Norm Hathaway Orchestra and numerous area Rock & Roll acts. \nPeter’s love and intricate understanding of 1960’s period music and arrangements combined with his great ear and meticulous attention to detail are some of the key ingredients that bring The Sixties Show’s sound to life. The Mellotrons and Moogs\, the Hammond B3\, Vox Continental and Farfisa organs\, the Hohner\, Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos are all faithfully reproduced with state of the art gear and performed with the most accurate authenticity. His precise transcriptions of legendary 1960’s scores\, orchestrations and arrangements are always spot on and sound just like the original recordings. \nPeter also enjoys sharing his love of music with his many piano students. “They learn the masters.
