SUMMARY:Being Henry
DESCRIPTION:Long Island LitFest Presents Henry Winkler\nWednesday\, November 1\, 2023\, 7:30 pm\nAt Madison Theater\, Molloy College\, Rockville Centre\nYour $50 ticket includes a talk with Henry Winkler\, audience Q&A\, book signing & photo op. \n  \n \n  \nPlease join us for an exclusive Long Island event when Newsday Senior Lifestyle Host Elisa DiStefano sits down for an intimate conversation with superstar Henry Winkler. Henry will be talking about his memoir\, BEING HENRY: The Fonz… and Beyond. \nFrom Emmy-award winning actor\, author\, comedian\, producer\, and director Henry Winkler\, this is a deeply thoughtful memoir of the lifelong effects of stardom and the struggle to become whole.  Henry Winkler\, launched into prominence by his role as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days\, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant\, funny\, and widely-regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case\, he’s really just grateful to be here)\, Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood\, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia\, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own\, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you. \nSince the glorious era of Happy Days fame\, Henry has endeared himself to a new generation with roles in such adored shows as Arrested Development\, Parks and Recreation\, and Barry\, where he’s revealed himself as an actor with immense depth and pathos\, a departure from the period of his life when he was so distinctly typecast as The Fonz\, he could hardly find work. \nFilled with profound heart\, charm\, and self-deprecating humor\, Being Henry is a memoir about so much more than a life in Hollywood and the curse of stardom. It is a meaningful testament to the power of sharing truth and kindness and of finding fulfillment within yourself. \n  \nPhoto by Andrew Eccles \n  \nAbout Henry Winkler:\nHenry Winkler will celebrate 50 years of success in Hollywood this year and continues to be in demand as an actor\, producer\, and director. He co-stars as acting teacher Gene Cousineau on the hit HBO dark comedy\, Barry. For this role\, he won his first Primetime Emmy Award in 2018 for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy as well as two Television Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama\, he was cast in 1973 in the iconic role of Arthur Fonzarelli\, aka “The Fonz\,” in the TV series Happy Days. During his 10 years on the popular sitcom\, he won two Golden Globe Awards\, was nominated three times for an Emmy Award and was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In recent years\, Winkler appeared in a number of series\, including Medical Police\, Arrested Development\, Children’s Hospital\,Royal Pains\, New Girl\, and Parks and Recreation. He is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous children’s books\, including Alien Superstar\, A Trilogy and Hank Zipzer the World’s Greatest Under-Achiever\, a 28-book series inspired by Winkler’s own struggle with learning challenges. Of all the titles he has received\, the ones he relishes most are husband\, father and grandfather. Winkler and his wife\, Stacey\, have three children\, Jed\, Zoe and Max\, and six grandchildren. They reside in Los Angeles with their two dogs. \n\nModerated by Elisa DiStefano\n \nWe thank Locust Valley Bookstore for proving the books for this event.

SUMMARY:Jazz Funk Soul
DESCRIPTION:Smooth jazz supergroup Jazz Funk Soul formed in the mid-2010s as a collaborative trio featuring Jeff Lorber\, Chuck Loeb\, and Everette Harp. They released two albums with 2014’s Grammy-nominated Jazz Funk Soul and 2016’s More Serious Business. After Loeb’s death in 2017\, guitarist Paul Jackson\, Jr. joined for 2019’s Life and Times and 2022’s Forecast\, both of which honored Loeb and continued to showcase the trio’s hooky\, groove-oriented sound. \nFormed as a live touring ensemble in 2013\, Jazz Funk Soul initially featured the talents of veteran musicians Jeff Lorber (keyboards)\, Chuck Loeb (guitar)\, and Everette Harp (saxophone). Prior to joining forces\, the members had each distinguished themselves as regulars on the smooth jazz charts. Grammy winner Lorber had worked with luminaries like Kenny G\, Dave Koz\, and Miles Davis. Similarly\, Loeb and Harp had also scored many Top 20 jazz albums and worked respectively with artists like Eric Marienthal\, Fourplay\, and Stanley Clarke. They brought all of this experience to bear on their 2014 full-length debut\, the eponymous Jazz Funk Soul on Shanachie. Well-received\, the album earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. They returned two years later with their sophomore LP\, More Serious Business. \nTragically\, Loeb succumbed to cancer in July 2017. After his passing\, Lorber and Harp enlisted guitarist Paul Jackson\, Jr. to join them for an album that would serve as a tribute to Loeb’s legacy. Life and Times appeared in January 2019. Jackson remained as a full-time member and was on board for the group’s fourth album\, Forecast\, which arrived in 2022. Along with funky cuts like “Fish Grease” and “Hustle\,” the record again featured an homage to their late guitarist with “CSL” (for Charles Samuel Loeb). evenings. \n

SUMMARY:A Doo Wop Project Christmas
DESCRIPTION:The Doo Wop Project returns to the Madison Theatre with a Christmas show you will not want to miss. \nThe Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning\, tracing the inception of group singing developed by inner city African Americans performing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows DWP takes audiences on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests\, Belmonts and Flamingos through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson\, The Temptations\, and The Four Seasons all the way to DooWopified versions of modern musicians like Michael Jackson\, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5. Featuring stars of Broadway’s smash hits Jersey Boys and Motown: The Musical\, the Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine—some of the greatest music in American pop and rock history! \n
