Hello dear readers. I tend to have a lot of curiosity about my fellow human beings, especially those who have talents that I don’t. That is why I was excited at the opportunity to speak to some of the wonderful performers who will be appearing in the Madison Theatre Christmas show. One of the people I got to interview was Ryan Mulvaney. It was lovely to talk to him and to find out more about him. Without further ado, let’s get into the interview.

What is your favorite thing about performing?

“My favorite thing about performing is the story telling.  Whether it’s a serious drama or a corky character role, their stories are all unique.  Being able to combine singing, dancing, and acting into one cohesive character is challenging. However, once you’ve achieved this goal of combining all three, you get to honestly live in that character and wholeheartedly tell their story. There’s nothing like it.”

What’s your favorite role or performance you’ve done?

“That’s a tough one! Most recently I was in a professional production of Chicago and I absolutely loved being able to dance in a show known for Bob Fosse’s iconic choreography.  I would also have to say Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors was extremely fun to play because of his varying relationships with the other characters, and the awesome songs he gets to sing.”

What inspired you to start in the theater?

“When I was young, sitting and watching my sister dance in recitals and Christmas shows made me jealous.  I really wanted to do the same thing, so my mom took me to an audition for about 30 theaters and I eventually booked my professional show.  I’ve loved it ever since.”

What is your dream role?

“Fiyero in Wicked, Pippin in Pippin, or really any of the men in A Chorus Line.”

What are you looking forward to the most about performing in the Christmas show?

“I’m looking forward to the opening number! It’s completely original to the show and it’s so fun to perform! The jazzy swing dance to “Sleigh Ride” is also one of my favorites.”

How is Long Island/New York different from your home in Ohio?

“I live about fifteen minutes from the city of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Therefore I still get the hustle and bustle of the city, the nightlife, and entertainment, but then I go home to my neighborhood, and it’s just a quiet little community.  That compares pretty accurately to the Molloy/NYC relationship.  Especially as a CAP21 student, being in the city three times a week and then returning to Rockville Centre reminds me a lot of home.”

Who is your favorite actor/actress? What is your favorite movie?

“Lesli Margherita and Patina Miller are my favorite actresses.”

What is your favorite Christmas song?

“I  love all Christmas music! But if I have to pick some favorites: ‘Believe’, ‘Mary, Did You Know’, ‘Santa Clause is Comin’ to Town.’

And that’s all, dear readers. I hope you enjoyed reading this interview as much as I enjoyed giving it. Look forward to more exciting interviews with performers in the Christmas show coming up soon!
