Greetings Madison Theatre fans!

This Christmas, we are excited to present a classic in the worlds of ballet, music, film and television. The Nutcracker was originally a fairy tale titled “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffman. Eventually, it was adapted for ballet by Tchaikovsky in 1892. The premiere of the ballet was held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

During the Russian Revolution in 1917, many Russian ballet dancers were out of work. They left Russia and went all across Western and Central Europe. They brought the Nutcracker with them and performed selections all over Europe. This caused the work to spread across Europe, eventually leading to the first staging in New York City in 1954.

Today, the Nutcracker is a classic work, enjoyed by all ages all the over the world. Get your tickets today!
