The Doo Wop Project

Hello dear readers. I’ll admit that before I started my internship here at the Madison Theatre, I had never heard of Doo Wop. I assumed, when I did hear of it, that it was some kind of music but I had no idea what it would sound like at all. I also assumed that it would be a kind of music that was outdated, a relic of the past that no one listens to now. (Though good music is timeless so I don’t know what I was thinking. I know better now.) However, I found out that my assumptions are absolutely not true. Not only do people listen to Doo Wop today but it is also a genre of music that is performed by such artists as Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, and Amy Winehouse: singers that I have actually heard about and listened to.
When I first found this out, dear readers, I was shocked. I guess that is why it’s a good idea to never make assumptions. They are, unfortunately for the one making them, often proved wrong. Clearly I need to educate myself on Doo Wop just as I need to educate myself on classical music. Perhaps going to see the Doo Wop Project’s performance at the Madison Theatre will be a good place for me to start. The talented members of the group include the cast of Broadway shows such as Jersey Boys and Motown: The Musical, which show that they all must be amazing singers. When learning about a new genre, it’s always a good idea to start with the best. I recommend that you join me. Whether you’re new to Doo Wop like I am or you’re a dedicated fan who’s wondering how I never heard of it before—sorry—this performance will definitely be an unforgettable one. Don’t miss it!
